A Bit About Us

Here at Wysocking Wildlife Sanctuary, we see the value in everyone. We want to be a catalyst for positive change, and since our beginnings in 2006, we’ve been driven by the same ideas we initially founded our Wildlife Sanctuary upon: support, empowerment, and progress. Learn more about our mission, our vision, and how we go about making the changes we want to see.

Wysocking is a NC wildlife refuge preserving and protecting the natural environment to ensure the continued existence local species for future generations.

Wysocking Wildlife Sanctuary originated in thought around 1980, as a simple haven for wildlife – conceived from Dr. Karl B. Pace’s passion for observation and conservation of the fleeting habitat of earth. He always considered Eastern North Carolina a “diamond in the rough”, full of interesting plants, animals, and ideas. An avid bird watcher, Dr. Pace acquired the first 450 acres for the conservancy in 1989 to provide a resting point for migratory birds. Wysocking continued to grow over the next 25 years, never compromising on Dr. Pace's tough stance on preservation and constantly cultivating new ideas to enrich our natural environment. Wysocking Wildlife Sanctuary continues to further Dr. Pace's philosophy of active environmentalism through natural habitat protection and preservation, providing a safe haven for wild animals and promoting research and awareness
